Meet Chris McCrary

Candidate for Westfield City Council

I’m Chris McCrary, and I’m proud to call Westfield home. I served our country in the United States Air Force for 21 years, where I specialized as an Emergency Manager, achieved the rank of Senior Master Sergeant (SMSgt), and led a team of six Airmen. Over my career, I had the honor of training hundreds of service members and was deployed to Qatar, Kuwait, and Jordan. I retired from Barnes Air National Guard Base here in Westfield in December 2021.

Today, I continue my service as a full-time Emergency Manager for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, helping ensure the preparedness and resiliency of the systems that support our nation's veterans. I have also trained as a Financial Coach, equipping myself to help individuals and families improve their budgeting skills and build stronger financial futures.

I believe in a city government that works for everyone—families, students, seniors, and small business owners alike. I’ve lived in Westfield long enough to know that while we have a strong foundation, we also have real opportunities to grow smarter, plan better, and support our community more effectively. That’s why I’m running for City Council.

My wife, Shauna, and I have been married for 19 years and have lived in Westfield for 14 years. She’s well known in the community through her work at the Westfield YMCA, where she serves as a personal trainer, fitness instructor, CPR instructor, and Fight PD coach, helping individuals with Parkinson’s disease stay strong and mobile. She is also a Livestrong program coach, supporting cancer survivors through fitness and recovery.

We’re proud to be raising two sons—both students at Westfield Technical Academy. One is enrolled in the Aviation Maintenance Technology Program, and the other is pursuing Construction Technology. As a parent, I see firsthand how important it is to invest in hands-on education that prepares students for high-demand careers.

Our family is actively involved at Westfield Evangelical Free Church, where I’ve had the opportunity to volunteer in several capacities and stay connected to what truly matters: faith, service, and community.

As your City Councilor, I will bring:

  • Strong schools: modern facilities, empowered educators, and expanded technical career pathways

  • Business-friendly leadership: competitive tax rates and streamlined city processes

  • Future-focused planning: strategic development and smart infrastructure investments

  • Fiscal responsibility: transparent budgeting and sustainable long-term financial practices

  • Community-first values: inclusive leadership that listens, collaborates, and delivers results

I’m not a career politician—I’m a veteran, a public servant, a husband, a father, and a neighbor. I’m running because I care deeply about this city and the people who call it home. With your support, we can make sure Westfield grows stronger, more connected, and ready for the future.
